New Degree Program Offered

You just gotta love The People’s Cube!

Obamology Studies at Hardfart University

Our Department has created a curriculum out of thin air and in a big hurry, enabling persons with some loose $100,000 to spend it on an undergraduate degree in the exciting new field of Obamology (the study of Obama.) Qualified candidates (i.e. those with extra $100,000) successfully completing 30 credit hours will obtain a B.O. degree (Bachelor of Obamology), which will not lead to a career or paying job or any such corporate entrapment, but it will help make you feel as if you are serving the community while you’re hanging around on the street corner.

Just a couple of samples of the course offerings from the Department of Theology, Mythology and Miscellaneology:

138 – Obama and Racism – Ms. Michelle Amabo – credits to each according to his need
Why disagreeing with Obama is racist. Why insinuating Obama is not qualified to do brain surgery on you is racist. Why things we don’t normally think of as racist become racist when doing them gets in Obama’s way. Why racism trumps sexism. Why, whenever Obama practices sexism, it is not sexism – and it’s racist to think it is. Why and when the words “circular reasoning” are racist.

366 – Obama’s Governance Principles – Mr. Alinsky – credit where credit is due
What is communism? Why communism got a bad rep. How to put a happy face on mass executions. Why totalitarian principles work. How to achieve reverence and blind obedience from the unwashed masses. How to remain unsullied while others do the dirty work for you. Why eliminating freedom, capitalism, and individualism is necessary and useful. Applying principles from “The Night of the Long Knives.” Why gun control is paramount. The movie “Soylent Green” will be viewed and discussed.

The Chief notes that although this program has been designated as a B.O., he strongly thinks that B.S. would be more appropriate for this subject.

Thune Catches RINO-virus With anti-Drilling Bill

Senate “Gang” (Including Thune) Sells out to Donks on Drilling

Not-So-Slick Oil Bill

Intro to Article: Some GOP senators allied with Democrats are peddling a “drilling” bill that actually adds exploration restrictions, raises taxes and may even end up meaning no new domestic oil. Some Republicans never learn.

Does this ever nail it! It’s even worse than Charlie Brown trying to kick the football!

Whenever the nation is faced with a big problem that the people demand be solved, we can always be sure of one thing: A group of Republican senators will scramble away from their party’s principles to join Democrats in some grand “compromise” scheme.

This kind of stuff just drives me nuts! What’s wrong with showing some cojones for a change instead of falling for the false belief that a “Republican” compromise gesture gets us ANYTHING, except farther away from where we really need to be going.

Unfortunately SD’s lone GOP Senator John Thune has bought into (or been bought into) this display of political pusillanimity.  Or maybe the RINO (Republicans In Name Only) virus in in the CapitolHill water.

The bipartisan “Gang of 10,” led by Republican Saxby Chambliss of Georgia and Democrat Kent Conrad of North Dakota has grown into a “Gang of 16,” with GOP Sens. John Warner of Virginia, Norm Coleman of Minnesota and John Sununu of New Hampshire the newest misguided Republicans. A more apt nickname would be “The Gang That Couldn’t Think Straight.”

The “comprehensive” bill that these four, plus fellow Republicans Bob Corker of Tennessee, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Johnny Isakson of Georgia and John Thune of South Dakota are joining with Democrats to push would exclude — permanently — the entire Pacific Coast from drilling. It would also limit a lot of the Atlantic Coast, and ban drilling anywhere within 50 miles of shore.(Emphasis added.)

Hey, Senator…if EVERY ACRE in the country was planted to ethanolic corn crops, it STILL wouldn’t be enough to maintain our fuel supplies…we need to drill wherever there’s oil – and the recent experience of the Gulf production platforms in the face of repeated hurricanes, shows that this can be done with extremely minimal environmental risk.

It’s almost enough to make a life-long (the Chief started his involvement with Youth for Goldwater before he could even vote) Republican activist give up on the once Grand Old Party…but for what alternative? Maybe it’s time to revive the Whigs or something, since The Libertarians, and other minor parties are fatally flawed at present by their hopelessly blind situational awareness concerning the national security problems we have with Islamofascism, and the resurgent Soviet Union Russia and Putin’s Cold War II.

A Taste of B.O.’s Planned United Soviet States of America?

A couple of items, that to the historical-minded are all too evocative of the bad old days of the Soviet Union:

Michelle’s Boot Camps For Radicals

Election ’08: Democrats’ reintroduction of militant Michelle Obama in Denver was supposed to show her softer side. But it only highlighted a radical part of her resume: Public Allies.

What’s this about?

The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn’t seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year “community leadership” positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They’ll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats….

But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about “social change” through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation — the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul “The Red” Alinsky.

And then, there’s Joe Biden…the other part of the Donks’ ticket:

Tasting GOP Blood

Election ’08: Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that, if elected, an Obama administration might pursue criminal charges against the Bush White House. This is how he plans to unite the country?

It was a common event, from the earliest days of the Soviet Union to purge, arrest, try, and execute the losers in policy disagreements. The reasoning ran, if your policy was rejected, it was because it would have been harmful to the progress of the Soviet Revolution…and therefore was treasonable!

Barack Obama insists he’s the one we’ve been waiting for to bring the country together. Yet, he and Biden are signaling their willingness — or is it their eagerness? — to criminalize political opposition.

“We will not be stopped from pursuing any criminal offense that’s occurred,” Biden said Monday at a Florida campaign stop. “If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued — not out of vengeance, not out of retribution, (but) out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president — no one is above the law.”

This follows Obama’s pledge last spring, before adopting his attack-dog running mate, that “If crimes have been committed, they should be investigated.”

This will play well with those segments of the Democratic Party where the hardware that keeps them hinged to reality has come loose. To treat their Bush Derangement Syndrome, nothing less than retaliation will do. And no matter how much Biden denies it, vengeance and retribution are driving the threats.

Is it really necessary to remind Democrats it is contrary to our system to imprison those with whom we don’t agree, that our republican form of government guarantees a peaceful transition of power? America is not a Third World dictatorship in which policy disputes are settled with the group in power throwing unpopular members of the other party into the cooler.

We agree with Biden that no one is above the law and said as much during Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial. But would Biden agree with us that the law shouldn’t be twisted so that it can be employed in vengeful and childish ways?

What can one say…these folks are a clear and present danger to our representative republic.

Keep your powder dry!

Religious Test Applied to Palin?

Palin’s Church Questioned

This blogsite was apparently set up by someone specifically to go after Gov. Palin & her association with the pentecostal Assembly of God church, and was sent to me by an e-mail correspondent.  It stimulated this response, and in addition to sending this as the reply to the original e-mail, it seemed worthy of being posted in its own right.

http://juxtapostle.blogspot.com/2008/09/pentecostalism-palin-doctrine.html#Revelations

Well, while I admit that the A.G. & other pentecostal churches are not my cup of tea personally… I keep coming back to the one little thing in the Constitution that there is no religious test for office in the United States government.

The blogger who posted this, obviously has his own point of view, and is certainly entitled to it… but IMHO when he strongly infers that Gov. Palin (and others) who believe in this church are somehow psychologically unfit, he’s going down a road that should be avoided at all costs.

It was a long-standing practice in the old Soviet Union to label dissenters, including religious dissenters, as being insane, and thereby worthy of forcible “re-education treatments” including electric shock, drugs, and other “treatment” more akin to torture than to anything we would accept as any form of psychological medical treatment.  Things like this still happen in the (fortunately) few remaining Communist states, including the ChiComs.

Another consideration in this type of approach is that one man’s church, is another man’s cult (or worse).  This sword can cut in any direction.

At one stage in the U.S., similar attitudes led to widespread persecution and officially organized military attacks against the Mormons, which is the reason they went out to Salt Lake (which at the time they left was still part of Mexico) to escape U.S. persecution.  If you doubt it was that bad, in 1838 Governor Boggs of Missouri issued an official order to all Mormons to leave the state or be exterminated…and mobilized the state militia to do the job… pre-dating the similar activities of the Einsatzgruppen of the S.S. by over a hundred years.

Think it couldn’t happen again?  Remember Waco a few years back and the way that was handled with respect and moderation by Janet Reno et al?  At that time, as a Mormon, I was told to my face (by a fellow-sailor in the Naval Reserve!) that something like that would be entirely appropriate for “any cult”, including the “Mormon cult”.  Again…one opinion, but still reflective of an attitude willing to totally condemn AND ELIMINATE anyone with beliefs contrary to a point of view outside of the accepted “orthodoxy”.

Finally, to return to the topic of Governor Palin… we HAVE had experience with Assembly of God members in government before… and guess what?  We survived it!

Missouri elected Assembly of God member John Ashcroft to the Senate at least a couple times before he was appointed United States Attorney General.  Admittedly the liberals hated him too… and the same reaction drives the current wave of horror with which Palin is regarded on the part of the liberals and the so-called “mainstream” media.

Personally I alternate between laughing at their hysteria, and wanting to retch at the depths they are willing to go to to besmirch this woman and her family, in order to gain a political objective.

When Donk Veep Candidate seriously discusses the possibility of starting criminal actions against the current administration when they are out of office (because of their policy differences with the Donk party leftists), coupled with the M. Obama proposed setting up of government training centers to indoctrinate a political action force to promote “progressive” policies… a more immediate source of concern, at least ot those of us who don’t care for (at best) a form of Euro-socialism or (at worst) a smiley-face version of an American Soviet system.

Phew…this is getting long, so I’ll pull the plug for now.

Personally, I LIKE Palin.  Hey, she hunts her own meat!  What’s not to like!

As far as the libs’ hysterical opposition is concerned;  —- ’em if they can’t take a joke!

McCain-Palin Ticket Ratified

Palin mocks Obama; McCain claims nomination

IMHO as a U.S. History teacher, the Chief proclaims this as an watershed historical event of some sort. Part of this is obviously the Donk nomination of B.O. as the first major-party nomination of a black candidate. The GOP, for its point nominated its first female member of its top ticket for 2008.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin claimed her historic spot on the Republican ticket Wednesday night, uncorking a smiling, sarcastic attack on Barack Obama and winning cheers of acceptance and approval after a tumult-filled first week on the national stage.

She vowed to help presidential nominee John McCain bring real change to Washington, saying “he’s a man who’s there to serve his country and not just his party.”

The full text of her speech is here, and if you didn;t watch it, it’s worth a look. She has no problem with both standing up for good conservative principles, and one could but probably should not dare say calling a spade a spade, and nailing B.O. on his vulnerabilities.

The Chief REALLY likes Sarah Palin…both for what she reperesents, and for her “narrative”. Any gal who shoots her own moose meat, has got to be all right in MY book, although there are a lot of similarly appealing things along with that.

B.O. Getting Flushed Away

How Obama lost the election

This is a very interesting analysis from Asia Times’ Spengler, who on many issues, is one of the Chief’s favorite commentators. In this case apparently Spengler is/was on the ground in Denver at the Donks’ Imperial Coronation of The One, but he came away with a considerably different impression than that of the US MSM.

First, the general ambiance of the convention itself is graphically described:

Senator Barack Obama’s acceptance speech last week seemed vastly different from the stands of this city’s Invesco Stadium than it did to the 40 million who saw it on television. Melancholy hung like think smog over the reserved seats where I sat with Democratic Party staffers. The crowd, of course, cheered mechanically at the tag lines, flourished placards, and even rose for the obligatory wave around the stadium. But its mood was sour. The air carried the acrid smell of defeat, and the crowd took shallow breaths. Even the appearance of R&B great Stevie Wonder failed to get the blood pumping.

Sounds like fun to me – NOT!

The speech itself dragged on for three-quarters of an hour. As David S Broder wrote in the Washington Post: “[Obama’s] recital of a long list of domestic promises could have been delivered by any Democratic nominee from Walter Mondale to John Kerry. There was no theme music to the speech and really no phrase or sentence that is likely to linger in the memory of any listener. The thing I never expected did in fact occur: Al Gore, the famously wooden former vice president, gave a more lively and convincing speech than Obama did.”

So much for “change”. Also, the AlGor comment HAS to smart – “more lively and convincing” than B.O.!? Ouch!

Spengler goes on and illustrates the personal (and somewhat detached from reality) nature of B.O.’s appeal with this striking example:

I sat in on a session with three leaders of Veterans for Obama, a group of retired young officers who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan, courtesy of the New Republic’s writer on the scene, David Samuels. With passion and enthusiasm, these young people spoke of their hopes for nation-building in Iraq. The George W Bush administration should have put twice the resources into the beleaguered country, they harangued me – not just soldiers, but agronomists, traffic cops, lawyers, judges, and physicians. The Department of Agriculture should have mobilized, along with the Department of Justice.

Nation-building? Doubling down on the US commitment to Iraq? Isn’t that trying to out-Bush the Bush administration, while Obama campaigned on getting out of Iraq and spending the money on programs at home? Unblinking, one of the soldiers said, “That’s what we think Barack will do.” They believed in a more expensive version of the administration’s program, and faulted Bush for half measures – and somehow they believed that Obama really agreed with them, all the public evidence to the contrary. And they believed in Barack with perfect faith.

Gandalf’s warnings about the irresistible voice of the wizard Saruman in J R R Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings come to mind. If these battle-hardened veterans of America’s wars fell so easily under the spell of Obama’s voice, who can withstand it?

Hmmm. The voice of Saruman.  The Chief has had that thought before.

In my February 26 profile, I called Obama “the political equivalent of a sociopath”, without any derogatory intent. A sociopath seeks the empathy of all around him while empathizing with no one. Obama has an almost magical ability to gain the confidence of those around him. Perhaps it was the adaptation of a bright and sensitive young boy who was abandoned by three parents – his Kenyan father Barack Obama Sr, who left his pregnant young bride; his Indonesian stepfather Lolo Soetero; and by his mother, Ann Dunham, who sent her 10-year-old son to live with her grandparents while she pursued her career as an anthropologist.

Combine a child’s response to serial abandonment with the perspective of an outsider, and Obama became an alien species against which American politics had no natural defenses. He is a Third World anthropologist profiling Americans, in but not of the American system. No country’s politics depends more openly on friendships than America’s, yet Obama has not a single real friend, for he rose so fast that all his acquaintances become rungs on the ladder of his ascent. One human relationship crowds the others out of his life, his marriage to Michelle, a strong, assertive and very angry woman.

If Novak’s report is accurate, then Michelle’s anger will have lost the election for Obama, as Achilles’ anger nearly killed the Greek cause in the Trojan War. But the responsibility rests not with Michelle, but with Obama. Obama’s failure of nerve at the cusp of his success is consistent with my profile of the candidate, in which I predicted that he would self-destruct. It’s happening faster than I expected. As I wrote last February:

It is conceivable that Barack Obama, if elected, will destroy himself before he destroys the country. Hatred is a toxic diet even for someone with as strong a stomach as Obama … Both Obama and the American public should be very careful of what they wish for. As the horrible example of Obama’s father shows, there is nothing worse for an embittered outsider manipulating the system from within than to achieve his goals.

By all rights, the Democrats should win this election. They will lose, I predict, because of the flawed character of their candidate.

Let it be so!

GOP’s Hot Ticket

McCain picks Palin for GOP ticket
Selection sets up historic vote in fall

Republican Sen. John McCain on Friday picked little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, reassuring anxious social and fiscal conservatives but muting his own attacks on Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama as too inexperienced to become commander in chief.

To thoughts on this:
(1) There is just a SLIGHT difference between the top of the ticket and the #2 slot.
(2) Palin’s experience is executive…which of necessity grounds itself in actual stuff that has to be done to keep something operating… whether it’s a small town, a state government, or a business.

B.O. has none of this – HIS experience consists of kvetching as a member of the legislative herd, and not an especially productive one at that

The stunning choice sets up a truly historic presidential race – on Nov. 4, Americans will either elect the nation’s first black president or its first female vice president.

Indeed!

Mrs. Palin, 44, still in her first term as governor, brings strong conservative credentials – she opposes abortion rights and gay marriage, supports increased domestic drilling for oil, is a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and has a son in the U.S. Army who deploys to Iraq next month.

What’s not to like?

Finally, from across the aisle, predictable downtalking:

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel said the choice represented “political panic,” and the Obama campaign put out a quick dismissive statement, saying Mrs. Palin had “zero foreign policy experience.”

“Zero foreign policy experience”…sort of like B.O., eh? Oh…not the same…as noted above, he’s at the TOP of the ticket. (Unless one counts B.O.’s appearance at Euro rock-concert/speech events as foreign policy experience.)

The Chief’s overall reaction:
ticket_main.jpg

“Every picture tells a story, don’t it?”

Truth about B.O. Confirmed!

Barack Obama will appeal to European voters to get more troops for Afghanistan

Barack Obama will use his popularity with voters in Europe to put pressure on EU governments to commit more troops to Afghanistan.

Yep! For sure! He’s a legend in his own mind!

(And to come up with this one… he shows a very poor case of situational awareness.)

Censorship & Government Persecution: Obama’s SS Strikes!

Obama campaign confronts WGN radio

What are the Obamanistas attitude toward minor details of the Constitutional Law, like say, the 1st Amendment? “Every picture tells a story, don’t it?”

Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign organized its supporters Wednesday night to confront Tribune-owned WGN-AM in Chicago for having a critic of the Illinois Democrat on its air.

SHOCKING! Someone from the MSM that hasn’t bought into B.O.’s prospective ascension to the Imperial Throne? What else could they do than to attempt to cut out the heresy, root and branch, and cast the perpetrators into outer darkness – or at least off the air.

“WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears,” Obama’s campaign wrote in an e-mail to supporters. “He’s currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers.”

Kurtz, a conservative writer, recently wrote an article for the National Review that looked at Obama’s ties to Ayers, a former 1960s radical who later emerged as a school reform advocate in Chicago.

The magazine had been blocked in its initial attempts to obtain records from the University of Illinois at Chicago regarding a school reform initiative called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which Obama chaired and Ayers co-founded.

Obama critics were quick to suggest that political clout could be involved in seeking to protect Obama from embarrassment. The school later reserved its position and made the records available Tuesday.

After noting more of the details of the situation, the posting concludes with “Obama’s campaign has launched similar offensives against stations that have run campaign ads that it did not like.”

NRO has some more information…this is an op-ed, but it DOES also report some additional information about what’s going on.

Barack Obama, Aspiring Commissar

While the Obama coronation proceeds apace in Denver, it is in Chicago that Americans are getting a disturbing demonstration of his thuggish methods of stifling criticism.

They go on to conclude with this:

Kurtz has obviously hit a nerve. It is the same nerve hit by the American Issues Project, whose television ad calling for examination of the Obama/Ayers relationship has prompted the Obama campaign to demand that the Justice Department begin a criminal investigation. Obama fancies himself as “post-partisan.” He is that only in the sense that he apparently brooks no criticism. This episode could be an alarming preview of what life will be like for the media should the party of the Fairness Doctrine gain unified control of the federal government next year.

CRIMINAL charges? Hello? What happened to the 1st Amendment?

“Post-partisan?” Logically, this has to mean “one-party rule” (or is it “The One’s Party Rules”?)

Meanwhile, this stuff isn’t the only attempt to “control” the news that has affected the MSM:

ABC Reporter Arrested in Denver Taking Pictures of Senators, Big Donors
Asa Eslocker Was Investigating the Role of Lobbyists and Top Donors at the Convention

Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel.

Looks like the fix is in… it apparently wouldn’t do to show up Donk connections with the very same ilk of big-money types that their class-warfare neo-Bolshevik rhetoric loves to castigate.

What’s the flap about anyway?

Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC’s “World News with Charles Gibson.”

Must be some real news in danger of actually being reported for a change.

If they are this aggressive now, can you imagine what these totalitarian minded apparatchiks would do if they were in charge of the FBI, BATF, CIA, etc.???

Yikes! Keep your powder dry!

Donks’ Freudian Slip is Showing

Carville: Convention has no message!

On CNN this evening, Clintonista James Carville voiced his displeasure with tonight’s proceedings as having no theme, no message.

“James Carville seems the least satisfied Democrat in here right now,” noted CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “What’s going on James?”

“Well if this party has a message it has done a hell of a job of hiding it tonight I promise you that,” Carville said.

This is easily explained. In order to deliver a message…you first have to HAVE a message!

With nothing except retreaded 1930’s New Dealism with a new coat of Euroized “Social Democracy” (i.e. socialism) for a little variety, there is no message the Donks have left that they can admit to… at least without forfeiting totally their chance of getting elected in the U.S. (This fits in with the great success of B.O.’s speech in Deutschland, while it laid an egg here in the land of the Star Spangled Banner.

When will they ever learn?

Charity Begins at Home…Apparently not for B.O.

Barack Obama’s ‘lost’ brother found in Kenya

It’s said that blood is thicker than water…but maybe the political high altitude causes a sort of familial anemia fo B.O.

The Italian edition of Vanity Fair said that it had found George Hussein Onyango Obama living in a hut in a ramshackle town of Huruma on the outskirts of Nairobi.

Mr Obama, 26, the youngest of the presidential candidate’s half-brothers, spoke for the first time about his life, which could not be more different than that of the Democratic contender.

“No-one knows who I am,” he told the magazine, before claiming: “I live here on less than a dollar a month.”

Dang! $1.00 a month? B.O. reportedly met him the last time he was in Kenya…admittedly not much close connection…but family is still family…or is it?

Maybe B.O.’s in the not uncommon lib mode of thought that loves humanity but dislikes people.

Sieg Heil to The One!

One Nation, Under a New Obama Salute

These people are entering realms of consciousness that are more typical of north-central Europe in the 1930’s than anything that has come since. How very weird this is…not just the whole idea itself, but the overpowering need that Obamanationers have to absolutely DEVOTE themselves to what is becoming a Fuhrer-figure.

fe_da_080807whispers.jpg

Also, enough already of the neo-Boshevik style poster art – a Freudian slip is showing somewhere, for sure.

But you say there’s not really anything totalitarian going on here? Come again? What about The Candidate Of Change promising that he will CHANGE the details of our lives…no matter what WE want to do:

…he is going to give us not just new politics, but new lifestyles. He recently told an audience, “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.”

And the Obamas mean business, as Michelle Obama informed us:

Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.(Emphasis added)

Is that plain enough? Heaven help you if you persist in your “usual, univolved, uninformed” life, (for example as a bitter gun-liking, God-fearing, conservative), because the “re-education” camps couldn’t be far behind!

Of course, the “change” would need to start at the top…and the left has already openly proclaimed the need for a system of “war-crime” show trials a la Nuremberg after the annointing of the Imperial Status of The One.

One thing that hasn’t received much attention in conservative and Republicans circles is the ongoing conversation on the left about the possibility of Nuremberg-style war-crimes trials for members of the Bush administration should a Democratic president take office. I’m not exaggerating or introducing the Nazi analogy myself; they actually use the phrase “Nuremberg-style” when they discuss “war-crimes tribunals.” And they are quite serious (although the more moderate of them prefer a “truth commission.”)

Words fail at this point.

The Answer Isn’t Blowin’ in the Wind

Yeah, but NOT the way you might think it is! The Chief just HATES to throw mudballs at popular ideas, but this one is just too irresistable. First, Momentous Pronouncements from the Argus’ esteemed (satire alert!) paragon of political and ideological objectivity:

Kranz: Pickens plan has promise for S.D

If they haven’t heard much about him, South Dakotans will certainly know soon enough about T. Boone Pickens. His message on the future of energy is resonating loudly enough, and that has created some interest.

Hey, isn’t it AMAZING what a multi-million dollar multimedia ad campaign can accomplish in this day and age?

A Sioux Falls man, Lee Brown, a consultant, already was working on some unrelated projects with people connected with Pickens. “They in turn recommended me to help in this effort since I am once again located in South Dakota,” Brown said. He now is state director for activities promoting the Pickens Plan in the state – a plan to change how energy is used in this nation.

From what the Chief has seen, Pickens’ plan has more to do with how energy is PRODUCED, not how it’s USED… but I quibble.

Brown says South Dakota is already ahead of the game. He knows the importance of alternative energy, particularly wind energy, as well as the benefits from its use. Brown is a political consultant by trade, but he now has taken on an additional project.

Hello? As if this ISN’T political?

“Wind has been on the radar screen for three years, and projects are being funded, looking at anything in renewable fuels,” she said. “The Pickens Plan is a positive step, putting a national focus on the idea that we need to quit sending money to people who really don’t like us. His plan has huge potential….Downside? “There is no downside,” she said.”

No downside? And what’s the bit about where the money is going to go? Uh…read on, and follow the money.  IMHO the following piece has some real deal-busters.

B.O. Hijacks the Constitution! (Literally)

Obama won’t pay his bill

Here’s a report that illiustrates a degree of irresponsibility if not incompetence on the part of the Obamessiah’s campaign that turns him into a de facto hijacker of the Constitution, or at least 1800 copies of it.

For a man whose only qualification for the White House is his own claim to good judgment and good character, Obama is rapidly proving his claim is invalid on both counts.

On November 21, 2007, the Obama Campaign ordered 1800 pocket-size Constitutions from the National Center for Constitutional Studies, using Purchase Order number 11202007. The order was shipped to Obama For America Volunteer Headquarters, 300 W. Adams, 10th Floor, Chicago, Il, to the attention of Melissa McNeal. The phone number listed for McNeal was 312-506-0909. The order was placed by Becky Deignan, with copies to Bridget Gray and Melissa McNeal. The invoice total was $965.00.

Obama’s campaign has refused to pay for these Constitutions.

Despite repeated attempts to contact a responsible party in the Obama campaign, no response has been forthcoming, nor has the bill been paid.

Character counts.

Even MSM Tiring of Obamessiah Shtick

US election: Senator Barack Obama faces backlash in American media

Sometimes you just HAVE to go overseas to get news about the U.S. – expecially the U.S. MSM.

The increasingly presidential posture of the first-term Illinois senator and his campaign staff is beginning to stick in the throats of commentators, particularly given the narrowness of his lead over Senator John McCain.

“Barack Obama has long been his party’s presumptive nominee. Now he’s becoming its presumptuous nominee,” wrote Dana Milbank, a columnist for the Washington Post.

“As he marches towards Inauguration Day (Election Day is but a milestone on that path) Obama’s biggest challenger may not be Republican John McCain but his own hubris.”

Students the Same; Tests Get Stupider!

Girls = Boys at Math

Zip. Zilch. Nada. There’s no real difference between the scores of U.S. boys and girls on common math tests, according to a massive new study. Educators hope the finding will finally dispel lingering perceptions that girls don’t measure up to boys when it comes to crunching numbers.

“This shows there’s no issue of intellectual ability–and that’s a message we still need to get out to some of our parents and teachers,” says Henry “Hank” Kepner, president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in Reston, Virginia.

It won’t be a new message. Nearly 20 years ago, a large-scale study led by psychologist Janet Hyde of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, found a “trivial” gap in math test scores between boys and girls in elementary and middle school. But it did suggest that boys were better at solving more complex problems by the time they got to high school.

Now, even that small gap has disappeared, Hyde reports in tomorrow’s issue of Science. Her team sifted through scores from standardized tests taken in 2005, 2006, and 2007 by nearly 7 million students in 10 states. Overall, the researchers found “no gender difference” in scores among children in grades two through 11.

This all makes sense to the Chief, based on his 26 years in the science classroom. This piece goes on to point out that the REAL problem is in the testing.

The study’s most disturbing finding, the authors say, is that neither boys nor girls get many tough math questions on state tests now required to measure a school district’s progress under the 2002 federal No Child Left Behind law. Using a four-level rating scale, with level one being easiest, the authors said that they found no challenging level-three or -four questions on most state tests. The authors worry that means that teachers may start dropping harder math from their curriculums, because “more teachers are gearing their instruction to the test.”

This is a real issue, and one of the major flaws in the NCLB approach. The Chief was involved in South Dakota’s efforts to bring the testing in line with the states science standards…which are pretty good, and which also include higher level type three and four items noted above.

In the assessment project, we were instructed NOT to attempt to address these levels of competence in NCLB-related testing, since THERE IS NO WAY TO PROPERLY EVALUATE THE ATTAINMENT OF THESE ON THE TYPE OF “OBJECTIVE” TESTING USED FOR ESTABLISHING NCLB COMPLIANCE.

The same thing applies in math as it did for science. While the Chief has no objection (quite the contrary!) to establishing and maintaining high educational standards, the NCLB approach is fatally flawed. Unfortunately, there is no easy, concise, quick fix that readily lends itself to a bureaucratic type of approach. IMHO not only is this the case, but it is the INEVITABLE outgrowth of the establishment and growth of the massive Federal education bureaucracy of the Dept. of Education, which in turn drives a similar growth in the administrative infrastructure at the state and local levels in order to “document” compliance with the Federal mandates.

Reagan was right – abolish the US Dept. of Education!

Defending the Anne Coulter Niche

In Praise of Political Insults

The great American political insult is older than the nation itself. Ben Franklin, writing in 1771 before the States were even United, lamented “Libeling and Personal Abuse, which is of late Years become so disgraceful to our Country.” Not even George Washington was spared: Tom Paine raged about his “treachery” and “pusillanimity.”

Read the piece for some great historical examples of some hard-core zingers.

Semi-Republicanism, at Best

McCain sees himself in Teddy Roosevelt mold

Senator John McCain, in a wide-ranging interview, called for a government that was frugal but more active than many conservatives might prefer. He said government should play an important role in areas like addressing climate change,…

NAH! This is a junk science issue

…regulating campaign finance…

Limiting political speech. Booooo!

…and taking care of “those in America who cannot take care of themselves.”

MAY have something here…but as always, the devil’s in the details.

“I count myself as a conservative Republican, yet I view it to a large degree in the Theodore Roosevelt mold,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said, referring to Roosevelt’s reputation for reform, environmentalism and tough foreign policy.

On his worst day at least he’s still better than B.O. at his best.

Dubya: Drill Away!

President Bush Lifts Executive Ban on Offshore Drilling

President Bush today lifted a presidential ban on offshore oil drilling on the outer continental shelf that was implemented by his father, escalating a confrontation with Democrats in Congress over how to cope with soaring gasoline prices.

Although it’s a gesture in the right direction, it doesn’t quite get anything going…yet.

Lifting the executive moratorium has no immediate practical effect, because Congress enacted its own prohibition on offshore drilling in 1981. It would have to be rescinded for exploration to proceed.

At least it turns the heat up on the do-nothing Donk Congresscritters.

Every picture tells a story…

Magazine cover featuring Obamas draws criticism

B.O.’s unhappy about this one for some reason:

obama-mag-cover.jpg

Barack Obama’s campaign says a satirical New Yorker magazine cover showing the Democratic presidential candidate dressed as a Muslim and his wife as a terrorist is “tasteless and offensive.”

The illustration on the issue that hits newsstands Monday, titled “The Politics of Fear” and drawn by Barry Blitt, depicts Barack Obama wearing traditional Muslim garb—sandals, robe and turban—and his wife, Michelle—dressed in camouflage, combat boots and an assault rifle strapped over her shoulder—standing in the Oval Office.

The couple is doing a fist tap in front of a fireplace in which an American flag is burning. Over the mantel hangs a portrait of Osama bin Laden.

Yowch! What’s really interesting is that New Yorker is scarcely known as a right-wing journal.

Overall, the Chief likes it…although maybe it IS just a bit over the top…then again…NAH…they deserve it!

Governator Shows His Colors: They’re not Republican!

Arnold may consider Obama energy post

Apparently the Governator swings both ways…since he earlier endorced John McCain.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said in an interview aired Sunday that he would be open to the idea of serving as energy czar in a Barack Obama administration.

Maybe he got his languages confused…he is mixing up “czar” with “fuhrer”…and just can’t resist the appeal of THAT!

British Wisdom & Warning

Totalitarianism in the United States of America in 2009?

Paul Marks at Samizdata has a strongly cautionary note on how things have been developing here for some time. This is well worth the read.

…and his point is:

“But why should non-Americans care what happens in the United States?”

Because the brutal truth is that neither Britain or any other part of the West can stand if America falls – there is not, and can not be, any Plan B.

He has, as the saying goes, reason.

B.O. Flies Flags of Convenience

A couple of salient items concerning B.O.

New and Not Improved

Senator Barack Obama stirred his legions of supporters, and raised our hopes, promising to change the old order of things. He spoke with passion about breaking out of the partisan mold of bickering and catering to special pleaders, promised to end President Bush’s abuses of power and subverting of the Constitution and disowned the big-money power brokers who have corrupted Washington politics.

Now there seems to be a new Barack Obama on the hustings.

The New York Times Slimes is concerned over B.O. moving many of his earlier positions towards center-right…the Chief wonders why they would be surprised?

If one favors a candidate that has no apparent bedrock of fundamental principles, what’s the surprise when positions and policies change with the wind. Isn’t that sort of relativism nothing more or less than what has been advocated by social-democratic liberalism for say, the last 100 years or so?

So what’s the surprise when this is put into practice. Maybe they will begin to finally learn a big lesson – that ultimately character (or it’s lack) DOES count.

Meanwhile, B.O.’s own words promise to privide a well-stocked magazine full of ammo to use to further discredit what passes through his fuzzy mind as alleged thought:

Obama’s own voice may haunt him

Barack Obama has proved to be a difficult target to hit — just ask Hillary Rodham Clinton. Opposition researchers, though, hope that they’ve found a weapon to wound Obama in his own voice as recorded for the Grammy Award-winning audio version of his 1995 memoir, “Dreams from My Father.”

While candidates often have their own words turned against them in attack ads, it’s one thing to see past statements in block text and something else entirely to hear the same words in the office-seeker’s own voice.

“I think the audio version makes a much more immediate impact” than the print version of his memoir, said conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt, who has played audio excerpts from the book on his syndicated radio show. “It turns out to be very jarring to many ears to hear Obama talking about his youthful adventures, his attitudes on race.”

The Chief is sure that we’ll all hear much more of this before November. HEH HEH HEH.

Auschwitz-Style “Research” by Donk Candidate

Democratic Congressional Candidate’s Ties to Bizarre AIDS Research

YIKES!

Injecting PEOPLE with MALARIA on the totally insane moonbat theory that this will “cure” AIDS?! Well, maybe, I mean death from malaria WOULD “eliminate” an AIDS case, wouldn’t it?

Not only this, but a Donk candidate doing this…a taste of “change” to come under a Donk health plan?

The Democratic congressional candidate in Ohio, Dr. Victoria Wulsin, is being attacked by her Republican opponent for her work looking into a widely debunked theory that AIDS can be cured with malaria. The controversial treatment, known as “malariotherapy”, has been denounced by leading AIDS researchers as dangerous, scientifically unfounded and unethical.

U.S. Representative Jean Schmidt (R-OH), locked in a tight race with Wulsin for an Ohio congressional seat, recently sent out a fund-raising letter sharply denouncing Wulsin for her work on a malariotherapy project. The letter states that “Wulsin’s contempt for the culture of life has even led her to participate in grotesque medical experiments. Wulsin was paid for her work in medical “studies” where victims of AIDS in Africa and China were…injected with the malaria virus, all in the name of “scientific inquiry.”

Dr. Mengele would have approved no doubt…using African untermenschen as human guinea pigs like this, while Dr. Wulsin would have qualified for a hot-seat at Nuremberg in 1946.

Wulsin was paid to review data from these studies conducted in China (of course!) and Africa. It’s worth noting, that previous use of data from Nazi sources has been widely criticized as being unethical…how much more so to be involved with projects generating MORE data under similarly unethical conditions?

And this is the party the Blacks overwhelmingly favor? Sheeesh!

Space Race with ChiComs?

Uh…not unless we start to run! Otherwise it’ll be a default loss for us, and we’ll be on a slide down towards Eurotrash style mediocrity.

Buzz Aldrin: Invest in Nasa to beat the Chinese to Mars

Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the Moon, has issued a stark warning that America must invest now in the space agency Nasa, or surrender leadership of space exploration to Russia and China. In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Aldrin revealed that he intends to lobby Barack Obama and John McCain, the two US presidential candidates, in an effort to ensure they find sufficient funds for Nasa’s goal to establish a permanent base on the Moon and then send a manned mission to Mars.

This would be really BAD in so many ways…Russia and China literally holding the high ground?

Mr Aldrin, 78, said: “To me it’s abysmal that it has come to this: after 50 years of Nasa, and after putting about $100 billion into the space station, we can’t get our own astronauts to our space station without relying on the Russians.”

Really!

He said his message to the next president is this: “Retain the vision for space exploration. If we turn our backs on the vision again, we’re going to have to live in a secondary position in human space flight for the rest of the century.”

Any bets on this getting the attention of either of the major presidential candidates? No?

Didn’t think so. How sad.

SCOTUS Gets it Right!

p38.jpg
Americans have right to guns under landmark ruling

Individual Americans have a right to own guns, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday for the first time in the country’s history, striking down a strict gun control law in the U.S. capital.

The landmark 5-4 ruling marked the first time in nearly 70 years the high court has addressed the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It rejected the argument the right to keep and bear arms was tied to service in a state militia.

Justice Antonin Scalia said for the majority the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with militia service and to use it for traditional lawful purposes, such as self-defense in the home.

As far as the Chief is concerned this is not only a good decision…but it is the only rational one that could have been made based on the Constitution.

The really scary aspect of this is…what if the Court had gone the OTHER way…opening the floodgate for libDonk persecution of gun ownership…and with no legal protection left. A 5-4 decision is, as the saying goes, “a close-run thing”. Fortunately reason prevailed, and all sorts of unpleasantness can be avoided, at least for now.

It sure is fun to listen to the libs shuckin’ to try to interpret their way out of this one…with Daley’s Chicago regime next in the NRA sights, there must be some really interesting conversation going on with his machine’s candidate, the messiah B.O. himself trying to backpedal and sound like he’s not REALLY against guns.

The Chief also notes, most of the commentators, certainly those of the MSM drive-by persuasion, ignore the REAL 2nd Amendment gorilla in the corner – namely that said right to bear arms was NOT to enablle hunting, personal protection, fighting off Indians, or whatever. The real reason to insure that the citizenry was armed was to act as a limit to the government…so it it got too uppity, it could be overturned as may be necessary…just like it was in 1776!
